Pool type
Skimmer pools: little equipment, clear water
The most common pool in Greek gardens. Simple to run, economical to build and easy to look after.

What the skimmer does
A skimmer is an opening in the wall just below the coping. The top layer of water is sucked in there, exactly where leaves, insects and dust gather. After the filter, the water re-enters through the jets opposite, so the whole volume keeps turning over.
That is why the water does not reach the rim: it sits a hand's width lower, level with the skimmer mouth.
How many skimmers?
We count roughly one per 25 square metres of water, so one is enough for a small pool and two for a family 8 × 4. Position matters more than number: we place them where the prevailing wind pushes the leaves.
Who it suits
- Families who want a pool without a complicated plant room
- Holiday homes that open only in summer
- Small and medium pools, up to about 60 m²
- Anyone after the lowest price for a quality pool
