SPARTAKOSPOOLS

The build

How a prefab pool is made

A look behind the liner: the materials that hold the water, in the order they go into the build.

  1. Base

A flat concrete base is laid at the bottom of the excavation. The walls stand on it, so it has to be perfectly level.

  2. Walls

Galvanised steel panels, 2 mm thick, are set side by side and bolted together. Each panel is fixed to the base with four anchors.

  3. Bracing

Every joint gets an adjustable brace of 4 mm hot-dip galvanised steel, so the wall stays vertical once the pool is full.

  4. Pipework

Skimmers, return jets, main drain and lights are connected to the plant room before the soil is closed around the pool.

  5. Liner

The 1.5 mm fibre-reinforced PVC membrane is welded on site and covers floor, walls and steps in one continuous piece.

  6. Filling

The pool fills slowly while the liner settles without creases. Then the coping and the surrounding deck go on.

Braces behind the panels

Why it does not crack

In a masonry pool a hard render does the sealing, and any settlement or tremor can open a hairline crack in it. A PVC membrane flexes with the ground, so the water stays in.

Why it is finished fast

There is no formwork and no waiting for concrete walls to cure. The panels arrive ready and the work on the plot is counted in days.

Why it fits anywhere

Every piece is lifted by two workers, no crane needed. It goes down a narrow alley, up the stairs and onto the ferry.
